Friendly, couteous staff.
First off arriving at night and the parking lot lights do not work, please get these fixed! It is obviously an older building that shows it needs some work, as stated earlier the lights being out tell you that repairs are either not in the budget or the owner does not care to spend money on up keep. When we got in to our room it had a cover up smell, in other words some freshner or cleaning chemical being used to fragrant the room, which typically means it is coveing up some other undesirable smell.
old & needs fixing up no services .. restaurant, bar, pool landscaping is non-existant
I had booked 2 rooms (1 room for 1 adult & 3 children & 1 room for 2 adults & 1 child). The booking confirmation said each room for maximum of 4 people. However when we arrived & went to the rooms we had been given 2 rooms with 1 king size bed in each. I returned to the desk and was told the options/costs of the different rooms. I replied that the confirmation said 2 rooms, maximum 8 people. In the end the desk clerk gave us 2 rooms with 2 full size beds for the same cost. (The rooms were adjoining rooms which was great so we ended up with what we needed & the clerk was very nice.) However, I couldn't understand why the problem-2 rooms for maximum of 8 people seems pretty clear to me.)
Close in proximity to everything in Marion and Grant County.
Other hotels/motels I looked at in Marion were booked, and the Hotel Marion seemed to be virtually empty. Heard later that there might have been a problem with bed bugs, hence the empty hotel. Didn't notice anything and I was vigilant. Would have been nice to know, however.
Nice hotel, all rooms are furnished with old stuff from the seventies/eighties, but everything was very clean and smelled good. The hallway and the elevator might need to be cleaned up a little bit and refreshed. Overall, a very nice place considering the price!
Sadly, the noise insulation with outside was very poor, and 3 times in the night, I felt that the train who was on the railway next to the hotel might eventually end up in my room ... That's my only negative comment but I had a sleepless night, despite the quality of the bed and the cleanliness of the room ...
At one time this hotel was probably very busy and beautiful! It does need some updating but its clean! The staff was helpful with getting extra towels and anything else we needed. Would stay again if ever in the area!
The only thing I liked was that it got me 3 1/2 hours closer to my destination than my own home, I will not stay here again.
It smelled of oldness and staleness. The lock on the door was loose, would have been easy for someone to break in. Shower had mold on tiles. Front desk people definitely not professional, could use some training on greeting public, make visitors feel welcome. Needs exterior lighting, especially given its location. It was scary to go to car and back after dark.
It was very resonable priced. You got what you paid for, a room to sleep in that was clean.
Showers walls needed to be cleaning with bleach. Some mold build up in cracks of ceramic tile. Other than that is was clean.
The room was large.
The room had cobwebs. The hallways smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. There was a very loud band on Saturday night. Road noise was loud inside the room. The TV remote needed batteries. Room darkening curtains had obvious holes in them. Hotel was located right downtown Marion. Not all lights in the parking lot were functioning. Not all key card entrances work.
Cheap, but definitely not worth the little we saved. Never again.
Front desk clerk was unfriendly. It was very run down. Pool was not operating - no water in it no bolt lock and no "hook over" or chain lock (it had been removed) and we felt unsafe. I will definitely try to save my money somewhere else.
